Seeed Studio is replacing a batch of its Raspberry Pi Compute Module products with new part numbers that carry more memory and storage. In a blog post dated 23 October 2026, titled "Important Update: Upgraded Memory and Storage for Seeed Studio's Raspberry Pi-Based Products", the company says that "due to changes in the official supply" it is updating the hardware configurations of selected CM4- and CM5-based products. According to Seeed, the updated models offer up to 16GB RAM and 64GB eMMC.

Several product families are affected: the CM5-based reComputer Industrial and reComputer AI Industrial lines, the CM4-based reComputer R series, the reTerminal and reTerminal DM, and the reRouter. Seeed does not say what changed in the official supply. It also gives no prices and no dates for the new SKUs. That leaves integrators with a list of part-number swaps and not much else.

A note on sourcing: we read the announcement in full through Seeed's official blog RSS feed. We found no independent coverage of the notice, so the third-party sources below are background only.

The SKU swaps, as Seeed lists them

The table below copies the old-to-new mappings and the configurations Seeed gives for the new SKUs. Seeed lists the configuration only for each replacement SKU, not for the part it replaces. We have not inferred the old configurations from the part numbers.

The R2135-12 to R2136-12 and R2145-12 to R2146-12 mappings appear twice in Seeed's list: once under reComputer Industrial and again under reComputer AI Industrial. We have reproduced both as published. A few other old SKUs in Seeed's table, such as R1024-10, R1124-10 and the reRouter CM4 102032, appear with blank replacement cells in the feed's table layout, so we have left them out; check those against Seeed's product pages before ordering.

The pattern is mostly consistent. The new part numbers keep the same family prefix and step up by one in the model digit: R2235 becomes R2236, R1013 becomes R1014. On the reTerminal and reRouter, the suffix changes from 032 to 064 or from 32 to 64. Every replacement in the table except the two 2GB CM4 reComputers carries 64GB of eMMC. Those two entry-level parts, R1014-10 and R1114-10, are listed at 2GB RAM and 16GB eMMC. The 16GB RAM ceiling applies to the CM5-based R2246-12, R2046-12, R2046-10, R2146-12 and R2146-10.

Why now? The memory backdrop

Seeed's only explanation is "changes in the official supply". It does not say whether Raspberry Pi has dropped particular Compute Module memory and storage combinations, changed allocation, or changed pricing. Raspberry Pi's own recent statements do show a market under memory-cost pressure.

Raspberry Pi's notice, titled "Price increases for 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5", says the cost of memory has risen very steeply over the past two years and continues to increase. From the day of the notice, the 2GB variants of both boards rose by $12.50, to $67.50 for Raspberry Pi 4 and $77.50 for Raspberry Pi 5. The 1GB Raspberry Pi 4 and Pi 5 stayed at their existing prices, and so did the 2GB Compute Module 4 and Compute Module 5. The company said that in its previous round of increases, in April, it held the 1GB and 2GB prices while raising higher-density variants. It also urged customers to buy only from Approved Resellers, warning that some unauthorised vendors use inflated pricing.

Tom's Hardware described the move as the third price hike of the year in its headline, with rises of up to 23% blamed on escalating LPDDR4 and LPDDR5 costs. It reports the 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 at $77.50 and the 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 at $67.50. Tom's Hardware also notes that Raspberry Pi has frozen 1GB model pricing at MSRP but says it remains to be seen how long that can last. It floats the idea of a barebones SKU, while noting that recent firmware updates lock devices to official factory capacities. Related Tom's Hardware headlines report memory prices up 500% in 12 months and Pine64 halting Linux hardware manufacturing through at least mid-2027.

None of this says what specifically changed in the Compute Module supply Seeed relies on. Raspberry Pi's notice says the 2GB CM4 and CM5 prices did not change. Read it as context, not as an explanation of Seeed's notice.

What It Means for Makers

Who it affects. Mainly integrators, educators and small-volume builders who have standardised on a specific Seeed reComputer, reTerminal or reRouter part number, typically for industrial gateways, HMI panels or edge-AI boxes. If your bill of materials, purchase-order templates or procurement approvals cite one of the old SKUs above, expect to re-reference the replacement part.

What it replaces. Seeed describes these as updated hardware configurations of selected products, with an upgrade SKU for each old one. The notice does not say whether the old SKUs remain orderable while stock lasts. Seeed's list gives the new SKUs' configurations as up to 16GB RAM and 64GB eMMC. The two 2GB CM4 reComputer parts, R1014-10 and R1114-10, are listed with 16GB eMMC.

What to check. More memory or storage on the same carrier and enclosure should usually be a drop-in change. Still, anyone running locked-down images, validated deployments or fleet provisioning scripts should confirm the details for each SKU before switching. Seeed's notice does not cover OS images, firmware or certification status, and we are not assuming they are unchanged. Check them against Seeed's product documentation.

Price and availability. Seeed's announcement gives no prices and no availability dates for the replacement SKUs. Its status is an announced configuration change. There is no pricing, pre-order or ship date to report. Raspberry Pi's own October pricing covers its boards, not Seeed's finished products: the 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 is $67.50 and the 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 is $77.50 from the date of its notice, and the 2GB CM4 and CM5 were unchanged in that round. Do not read those numbers as Seeed's pricing.

The broader signal. Seeed has not said this outright, but the timing is consistent with the pressure Raspberry Pi describes: two years of rising memory costs. If you design around Compute Modules, now is a good time to make sure your carrier, enclosure and software stack do not depend on one exact RAM and eMMC combination.
